“He lacks the skills of Robin Hood, the courage of Hercules, the cunning of Aladdin… Meet Sir Render, the world’s most reluctant hero!”
Hooray! The ‘fraidy cat is finally out of the bag! I’m beyond excited to tell you that the June issue of the hilarious Monster Fun comic sees the debut of my brand-new, ongoing comic strip (drumroll please…) Sir Render – the Cowardly Knight!
The strip follows the reluctant misadventures of Rodney Render, a timid young pig scat collector who inadvertently becomes a knight of the realm. Watch as our hapless zero flees from fierce dragons, wets his codpiece at ghastly goblins and sobs uncontrollably in the face of fear. The only thing weaker than his resolve is his bladder!
I’m having a whale of a time writing this and am absolutely in love with my silly characters. This is in no small part due to the incredible art of Stephen Webster, who is a perfect fit for the strip. He has captured the silliness of the world perfectly. When I pour over his glorious artwork work I see elements of Asterix the Gaul, Calvin and Hobbes and shades of the late, great Ian Gibson. I couldn’t ask for more.
Monster Fun is available from all good newsagents and Rodney debuts on June 5th. Go buy it!
